We’re just a few days into November, and already I’m feeling thankful. At the moment, my gratitude goes to Mikey Madison and Mark Eydelshteyn, who shine and pop like fireworks in Sean Baker’s whirlwind New York love story Anora; Conner O’Malley, Eric Rahill, and Jack Bensinger, who are each so recognizably cringey as aspiring suburban rappers in O’Malley and Danny Scharar’s incredible DIY period comedy Rap World; and André Holland, who gives a predictably soulful and nuanced performance in Titus Kaphar’s emotional debut, Exhibiting Forgiveness. Yes, this past month has been full of superlative performances. But it’s also been full of thoughtful docs, affecting dramas, and some sheerly fun entertainment.
