If Peak TV officially plateaued last year, then 2024 has been a window into what the medium’s future might look like: fewer shows, potentially fewer streaming services, and a return to cable-style bundles. But even as the industry continues to contract, there’s still great television to be had if you know where to look, whether it’s a historical epic set in feudal Japan, a psychological thriller shot in stunning black-and-white, or a travel series where an iconic comedian is roasted by locals at every stop.
