Tuition for the first year of my MFA program was $17,847. My participation in a graduate assistantship earned me $4,250 in tuition aid. I also received a $1,000 scholarship. Without that help, the first year of the program would’ve cost $23,097.
If all things remain the same, my MFA degree will ultimately cost me $35,694. As far as graduate degrees go, that’s pretty good for a top-10 low residency program. A master’s in journalism from Columbia University runs for six-figures.
Why am I telling you about my tuition? Because discussing money is taboo in creative circles. And it shouldn’t be.
