A story from the first wartime meeting between Franklin Roosevelt and Joseph Stalin goes like this.
FDR was housed at the Soviet legation in Tehran, Iran. One morning the Soviet dictator looked in on his guest and inquired how he had slept. Just fine, said the president, except for the frogs croaking in a pond outside his window.
Stalin ordered all the frogs killed.
